Why the Rockies can pay on the MLB lines
The Rockies had lost three straight on three different occasions before getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game set over the weekend.
They also dropped two of three to the Arizona Diamondbacks prior to that and now find themselves looking up at both teams in the NL West standings.
Colorado’s slump has provided some value on the team, though, with a superior starting pitcher going to the mound in the series opener in German Marquez (5-3, 3.92 ERA).
Marquez is 3-1 on the road this season with a 3.00 ERA, and the Rockies have won each of his last three outings and seven of eight.
Why the Giants can pay on the MLB lines
San Francisco has been one of the biggest disappointments in baseball this year for a team expected to compete for the division title.
The Giants have seen starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (2-9, 4.74) struggle mightily in his second season with them, although he has performed slightly better at home.
Samardzija has gone 1-4 with a 4.34 ERA in six starts at AT&T Park. He has been a tough-luck loser in his past two outings there, allowing three runs each time while seeing the opposition outscore his team 9-5.
Smart betting pick
Colorado is a much better team than San Francisco, plain and simple.
The Rockies have also won the last nine games between the teams, so they have a lot of value in this situation as road underdogs on the MLB lines. Samardzija has been terrible as well, so it is difficult to find anything to like about the Giants here.
